Bodrum Airport to Gümbet, Bitez and Turgutreis: which transfer works?
Updated October 18, 2026 · 7 min read
Milas–Bodrum Airport is not in Bodrum town. It lies roughly 35 kilometres from the district centre, and your real journey depends on the resort: Bodrum bus station is one destination, while Gümbet, Bitez and Turgutreis normally require another leg. The cheapest-looking option can therefore become the most awkward after a late flight.
Airport bus: best for Bodrum centre
MUTTAŞ and Havaş airport coaches connect the airport with Bodrum bus station. The official airport information says outbound airport coaches leave Bodrum bus station two hours before flights; arrivals and seasonal frequency should always be checked close to travel. This is the sensible low-cost choice for a solo traveller or couple staying near central Bodrum.
It is not a direct resort transfer. For Gümbet, Bitez or Turgutreis, you generally continue from the bus station by local bus or dolmuş, or take a taxi for the final section. That works with light luggage in daytime. It is less appealing with a pushchair, several suitcases, reduced mobility or an arrival when local services are thinning out.
Do not rely on an old fare quoted in a blog. Transport prices and timetables change; check the airport, MUTTAŞ or Havaş channel for your date.
Private transfer: pay for certainty
The private airport transfer from Bodrum Airport to hotels and resorts is designed for direct travel to an address in Muğla. Confirm that your exact hotel, flight monitoring, waiting time, luggage and any required child seat are included before paying.
A private transfer makes most sense for a family, a group splitting the fare, a remote resort or a late arrival. Its advantage is not luxury but removing the interchange. The disadvantage is paying for a whole vehicle when one person could use the coach cheaply.
Give the correct terminal and flight number. Milas–Bodrum has separate domestic and international terminals, and the walk between them is longer than you might expect. A clear meeting instruction matters more than the vehicle badge.
Taxi: flexible, but ask first
Taxis normally wait at both domestic and international arrivals. Ask the official rank for the current fare or charging method to your exact destination before departure. “Bodrum” is not precise enough when a peninsula resort can be much farther than the town centre.
A taxi is convenient when you missed the coach or do not want to pre-book. For a long run to Turgutreis, compare the quoted taxi journey with a fixed private transfer rather than assuming either is cheaper.
Hire car: only if it serves the holiday
Hiring a car solely to avoid one airport interchange is rarely a good reason. Central Bodrum and Gümbet can be inconvenient for parking in busy periods, and a car may sit unused while you take boat trips. It becomes reasonable when your accommodation is remote or you intend to explore several peninsula villages independently.
You can compare car hire at Bodrum Airport, but compare the rental conditions as carefully as the headline price. Check the deposit, excess, CDW or other protection, fuel policy, additional driver, minimum age, child seat and office opening time with the operator. Do not invent certainty about an after-hours desk or insurance cover.
Which option for each resort?
For central Bodrum, the coach is the default when timing and luggage are manageable. For Gümbet and Bitez, coach plus local connection works by day, while a direct transfer is easier with children or a late arrival. Turgutreis is farther around the peninsula; the extra interchange makes a direct transfer more attractive, especially for several passengers.
Whichever you choose, keep the hotel’s full address and telephone number offline. Resort names are broad, similarly named properties exist, and the last kilometre is where vague plans fail. Book the transfer that matches the hardest part of your arrival, not the option with the most flattering headline.
